Burj Khalifa

The Burj Khalifa is the highest house in the world. The skyscraper is central in Dubai. On this page you will find all important information for visitors.

A visit to Burj Khalifa is a must for tourists. Almost all holidaymakers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) take the elevator to the highest building in the world.

The building has a height of 830 meters high and has 189 floors. The elevators to the top in Burj Khalifa are currently the fastest in the world. The height of Burj Kahlifa is gigantic. The second tallest building in the world, the Shanghai Tower in China, is 200 meters lower. In Saudi Arabia, however, a building is currently under construction that could have a height of almost 1000 metres after completion, i.e. a much greater height than the Burj Khalifa (information as of October 2018).

There are two different ways to visit the skyscraper Burj Khalifa. You can go to the 124th floor or, much more expensive, to the 148th floor. Here you are on the highest viewing platform in the world in one building.

What tickets are available for the Burj Khalifa in 2024?

Visitors can drive to the large viewing platform on the 124th floor at a height of around 450 metres (Observation Deck). This makes up the majority of visitors to the Burj Khalifa. The second option, ride to the highest visitor terrace on earth on the 148th floor, has a much higher price.

Not only the view from above is great, but also the grandiose architecture of the Burj Khalifa building and the super-fast elevators.

One should buy the ticket to the Burj Khalifa on the internet before. If one does not book in advance, one can also buy tickets for the Super Skyscraper theoretically on the spot. But the sightseeing is very popular. Usually, one has no chance to get tickets for the same day on the spot.

If you make a reservation online, you get a code. With this code you can easily print out your tickets at the entrance.

Children and adults unfortunately pay the same entrance fee at Burj Khalifa. Especially popular is the time during sunset. But then it is very crowded. The prices for a trip to the Burj Khalifa sometimes depend on the time of day. In the morning it is cheap, in the evening the prices are highest.

The visit of the highest building in the world in 2024

The entrance to the highest building in the world is on the lower floor of the gigantic Dubai Mall shopping centre, not all taxi drivers know this. From the metro station “Dubai Mall” it is a few hundred meters walk to the entrance of the Burj Khalifa in the shopping center.

First you drive up an escalator a few meters. You come through an exhibition about the construction of the highest building in the world. Everything looks modern and futuristic. The security controls are quite strict. Then you drive up with the fastest elevators in the world.

The groups of normal visitors on the 124th floor and VIP visitors on the 148th floor are already separated below. Holders of expensive tickets to the 148th floor take another elevator in small groups to the 148th floor. Then they go from the top to the other tourists on the 124th floor.

The height is shown on displays during the ride with the lift. There are three displays: current altitude in metres, current floor and time since the start of the ride in seconds. Despite the high speed (18 m/s = 65 km/h), you hardly feel the elevator travel. After about 1 min you are already at the top.

If the display is at “124” you are at the “Observation Deck” (it is about 450 meters above sea level on Burj Khalifa). There is even WLAN (internationally called WIFI) above. Very crowded is the visitor platform of the Burj Khalifa at sunset. Then the waiting times at the elevators up and down are often long.

One goes into the often windy free. The view all around is magnificent. You can see the whole city of Dubai, the sea and much more. Highlight for many visitors are the water fountains of the Dubai Fountain, far below directly in front of the highest house of the world.

THE LAKE FROM THE TOP

Cars on the wide motorways are only small points from the observation deck of Burj Khalifa. Other, smaller skyscrapers look like miniature toys, far below their own height. Many tourists look from above for houses in Dubai that they know like their own hotel.

It is mostly windy up here and a few degrees cooler than below. If you can, you should definitely come during the fountain show, it is especially great at sunset and after nightfall. The water games “Dubai Fountain” are only in the evening between 18 o’clock to 22 o’clock (weekend 23 o’clock) every half hour. They are the biggest water games in the world, even bigger than a similar spectacle in Vas Vegas (USA). They are in the artificial lake in front of the world’s highest skyscraper (Burj Lake). Some of the about 100 fountains of the Dubai Fountain shoot the water over 100 meters high.

Should you go to the 124th floor or the 148th floor?

The ticket to the top is much more expensive. Of course, everyone wants to get to the top of the highest platform in the world in the highest house in the world. But you can also see a lot from the 124th floor of Burj Khalifa. Thus, it is above all a question of the price which Burj Khalifa entrance ticket one books.

With the expensive premium ticket “Top Sky Burj Khalifa” with trip to the 148th floor you are a kind of VIP visitor. Right at the entrance you are led into a separate room and go up in small groups. Downstairs and upstairs you get free snacks and drinks.

As a premium visitor, you first drive up to the 148th floor of the highest building in the world, and you have to change the elevator on the way. One is not in the elevator of the larger crowd of visitors who “only” go to the 124th floor.

You can stay 30 minutes on the upper visitor platform of the Burj Khalifa with the premium ticket, you get drinks and snacks for free. The staff is very nice and answers questions competently. Due to the smaller number of visitors there is less crowding than on the lower observation deck

If you stay a little longer than 30 minutes on top of the highest view point of the world on the 148th floor, nobody says anything. Then we take another elevator down to the actual “Observation Deck” of Burj Khalifa on the 124th floor. Here one can spend unlimited time together with the visitors without a premium ticket.

The other visitors to Burj Khalifa, who only book the trip to the large visitor terrace on the 124th floor, simply take the elevator up and after the visit back down again.

At the top, with the premium ticket “Top Sky Burj Khalifa”, you feel more like a VIP visitor. You travel up in small groups including a kind of personal care, snacks and drinks are free.

The fountains of the Dubai Fountain can be seen better from the lower platform (124th floor). From the very top (148th floor) you can hardly see the water show. The water play of the fountain is every half hour in the evening (from 19:00) and at noon at 13:00 and 13:30.

In our opinion one should definitely visit the highest building in the world. Those who have more money or want to spend more should buy the premium ticket with the higher price on the 148th floor. But a visit to the 124th floor of Burj Khalifa is also worthwhile. The view is not much worse, but you are just at a lower height and not on the highest visitor platform in the world on the 148th floor.

Opening hours Burj Khalifa in Dubai 2024

The highest house in the world is open every day, 7 days a week, for visitors. The opening hours are daily from 8:30 to 22:00. Especially full, but also very interesting, is the time around sunset.

The fountain show with the high water fountains is only in the evening (about 19h to 23h). Additionally there is a show of the Dubai Fountain every noon from 13:00 to 13:30 (on Friday half an hour later). In the evening, in the darkness after sunset, the water show is better in our opinion.

When to visit the Burj Khalifa ?

Season: Due to the great climate at this time of year, there is more activity in Dubai in winter than in summer (main season winter). In winter you should buy the ticket for the Burj Khalifa at least 2 weeks in advance, in summer a few days in advance are enough.

Weekday: On all days there is a lot going on, on weekends a bit more.

The best time of day is early evening. Then you see everything first by day, later by night. Also the show of the fountain “The Dubai Fountain” is mainly in the evening (see above opening hours Burj Khalifa). A lot of people want to go up 1-2 hours before sunset. Sometimes there are queues at the elevators. So it is better to book the tickets for the Burj Khalifa 1-2 hours before sunset.
